Once this symbol is seen as sexy and edgy, the less it will mean... the more acceptable it will become. My Little Pony is something innocent, inclusive and cute; sorry, Nazis will never be that. By juxtaposing the two, you only make yourself look over-eager to seem controversial and faux-edgy, just for the sake of being "cool". How about a little more responsibility in your art? Your statements don't exist in a vacuum, and you show ignorance in glorifying the reprehensible. Might as well make Osama Bin Laden into a sex symbol. Why not? It's "edgy".
Yes because every other regime was so angelic... Kid I suggest you read War Against The Weak... The exact same thing happened in America but since the victims weren't mostly white no one cares since it was just a bunch of "niggers" getting killed!
Sry but i really don´t like it. Why do you make "cute" ponys whit nazi symbols? I Think this is really not a funny theme. You are a really good artist and i don´t want to offend you ^^ but for me it is a really serious theme. It is just my opinion so please don´t be angry >//<
I don't know what to say about this. Personally, I can look at this and hate it because of obvious reasons but looking at it more makes me think. My little Pony was made for children. Little kids. Nazi's took the lives of millions of children and destroyed the innocence of them and their families. This artwork is visual representation of that. By taking an innocent childhood love and turning it into the evil the Nazi's had it does speak for itself. The red reminds me of blood and how much blood shed the Nazi's caused. You took a risk by putting this up and I understand how people will become offended. I think if you put a better explanation for your piece, people will calm down. That's what I believe and this is coming from a person who is Polish and who had family members deeply affected by the Nazi's.
sorry again that im writing but i read more comments and want to teach YOU Americans about your history
such as do you remember the time when you just came from England you slaughtered all Indian families and took over their land.
than there were time when you enslaved black people.
and around the world war and war 2 you kept Irish people country most of you came from, black people and all other races as second class citizens + you ended war with nukes which were most possibly made by runaway Nazi scientists and even now CIA has done some serious S--t what i want to tell you is that every single country has done S--t they are ashamed of.
+ i am from Lithuania where we always were someones Bi-h
Grow up people. Most of you probably make jokes of murder, rape or some other shit none would probably like to experiance. This is meant as a joke, therefore treat is as one. If you find it offensive than leave this page. All jokes aren't sutied for everyone. There's no reason for this being taken down. If you really want it down so bad, how about sharing your thoughts about drawings depicting murder or something else you might find repulsive.
And go read some history books, you might learn more about the swastika. Stop being so ignorant.
i... don't get it. i'm not one to be fussy about political correctness and that crap but nazis and a sexy style? dafuq? but yeah. aside from that i actually quite liked this until i read the description xD nicely drawn!
Buruma is japanese, how much asien history were you (as western europeans or americans) taught in school ? Yeah sure we call them "World Wars" and they're pretty big things for us, when I was in school I was lectured on them for 3 years, but in the east for many people they are just "some wars"... maybe Japan should be a bit different considering they were part of it and had 2 a-bombs dropped on themselves, but I can only assume that their history lessons do not care that much about the european context of what was going on and more on their own fighting. In my own school history as a european it was more like : aaaall Europe, Europe, Europe... then a : oh yes and then the Americans and the Russians came to win the war. With a little sidenote that Japan joined on the Nazi side.
Additionally in asien the swastika is still used as an old (much older than the nazis) religious symbol meaning "10.000" or "eternity" and other good stuff, it just didn't loose all of its positive buddhistic meaning just because some freak in europe took it as the symbol of his regime. The eagle is still a symbol used by many countries in the world despite the fact that it was massively used by the nazis aswell, why? Because everyone can say... yeah they used it but everyone uses it so it was not THEIR Symbol. In the buddhist world it's just the same with the swastika.
Additionally her ID says Death Metal, I don't want to sound stereotyping and suggest any relationship between DM and fashism, but most people in this peer group prefer (quite similar to goth, industrial and emos if you ask me) : black cloth (preferably long black cloth), leather, high leather boots and something bright to break the whole blackness, mostly lots of shiny metallic buttons or a white shirt or bright coloured imprint on the shirt or coloured dreadlocks whatsoever. So if you now look at SS-Uniforms... from this point of view they are quite fashionable.
I do not say that this pony will not be offensive to a lot of people, but I want you to consider that it might not have been meant that way... and that if you think that "the only reason why someone could do something like that and not know it will be offensive is either incredibly stupid or immature", then you are extremly euro-centristic (or anglo-centristic if you're american... trust me, in most german school lessons americas participation in the war is just that they landed in the Normandy and then they were in Berlin... somehow they warped from there to there. There were good roads build by the nazis maybe they just drove from the Normandy to Berlin in one straight march without interruption... in 3 years of history lessons noone ever told us in the class I was in... and actually we were young and didn't care). So what you consider a MUST KNOW does not have to be one for someone in Brasil, Central Africa, New Zealand or Vietnam or wherever... and the thought that "I have a knowledge that is so important that everyone else has to have it and if not that person is dumb! And I know that this is the ultimate knowledge that everyone has to have because the enviroment in which I have been socialised does share my view on it (or lets say has taught me this view on it)!"... is quite... well... let's say... a little fashist.
Obviously Buruma is either trying to be maverick wind up or is truly someone whose brain is as flaky as confetti. Just in case Buruma your adoration of the Nazi symbol is the result of an inadequate education and more likely congenital stupidity, I'd try reading up about the Nazis, World War 2, concentration camps, massacre of Jews and minorities, genocide etc - which going by your profile Buruma would include you. You could start by reading about Auschwitz. Go on google your little brain, see what it's all about and book a tour.
If you are interested in european history you might want to learn that there is nothing good to say about Germany's Nazi past and that they established a system of extreme suppression and are guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity of the most ugly kind.
Per se there is nothing wrong in liking 1930-40s German military clothing/fashion but please restrain from spreading the symbols across the net because you do not want to be associated with the kinds of people that identify themselves with these things.
The look was intentionally meant to be fashionable. And history should never be hidden or forgotten.
People have their panties in a bunch over nothing more than a pony inspired by a historic tale. History is a dark thing, guys. It's not a cute, fluffy, good time had by all. Grow up and just accept that this is apart of realities past. The artist isn't telling you to go out onto the streets and blow up people who are Jewish or otherwise.
To the artist; I really love how you've shaded and highlighted in this picture. The pose could have perhaps been more dynamic but either way, the anatomy and colour looks very well done! (:
